Maggie + Jason

Windy City in Milwaukee

For the past few years, I’ve been adding specific locations and venues to my list of places I want to photograph. There’s SO many wonderful venues in the MKE area that I find inspiring or interesting. Some get added due to the difficulty of shooting there, the light or the architecture, some are just so big or notorious that I want the experience. Last year I started working through my “dream list” in MKE and I was thrilled when Discovery World landed on the books. It was added in the beginning and I had been patiently waiting for the opportunity to come along.

Maggie + Jason got married over Labor Day weekend and friends + family from all over the world gathered to celebrate these two. Hands down a day filled with overwhelming love from all that were there and plenty of homage to heritage. We started off getting ready at the Hilton City Center followed by a first look on the grand staircase. We made our way to the lake and enjoyed photos on the amphitheater stairs and docks, only to lose her vail to the wind landing in the water. A wonderful reminder that things go wrong on your wedding day but the show must go on.

What I loved about photographing these two was how proud and happy they were to be standing side by side. You could see it in the way they looked at each other and the tears they shared during a heartfelt ceremony. The ceremony was held in the Pavilion, and filled with tons of Filipino traditions. Lighting of candles by sponsors, a special veil + cord ceremony, rings and an arrhae. I love seeing diverse and unique wedding ceremonies, I truly think this is the time in the day to really infuse yourselves into the experience.

We missed out on sunset photos due to a foggy storm rolling in but the moody weather gave us some phenomenal skyline shots and a blanket of fog that was surreal to see enclosing on the harbour. The evening followed with grand entrances and dancing, emotional speeches and an amazing meal from Bartolotta’s. End all that with Simma’s Cheesecake and a night of upbeat dancing and you couldn’t have it any other way.

Cheers to these two.

All my love,

G.
